READY Parent A.C.T.I.O.N. Academy
Introducing the READY Parent A.C.T.I.O.N. Academy (Activating Community To Innovate and Organize Now), a transformative nine-month fellowship for parents of children in Rochester. Throughout this fellowship, participants will delve into the rich history of public schools in Rochester, gain insights into student achievement trends, build advocacy skills, and pursue community-driven solutions to challenges facing public education today.
The Parent ACTION Academy empowers parents and caregivers to play an active and impactful role in shaping the educational landscape for the betterment of Rochester's youth. By the end of the program, graduates will possess the knowledge and skills to clearly articulate their commitment, goals, and crucial role in advocating for positive change in K-12 public education.
Graduates of the program will build the confidence and knowledge base to step into their role as advocates and change agents. As a participant in the Parent ACTION Academy, you will:
Learn to trust your lived experience and stories as valuable wisdom that is key to designing solutions
Build your knowledge of the education landscape in Rochester and how decisions are made- from the school to school board to city to state level
Understand “systems change” and how to see, navigate and leverage different sources of power
Learn from parent groups and organizations in other cities doing innovative, community-driven work to transform education
By the end of the program, participants will:
Examine Rochester’s educational landscape and history
Understand the levers of change (people & money, political infrastructure, and ideas & narratives)
Explore innovation and opportunities through national/regional/local cases of communities reimagining education
Unearth their pathway toward advocacy and impact within K-12 public education
Join a growing collective of advocates who are informed, engaged, and advocating for children to receive a great K-12 public education
